Hey Lois! What inspired you to pursue a career in skincare?

Skincare has always been a hobby to me even from a very early age, I have always researched into products and what the best products were for my own skin. One of my biggest compliments has always been about my skin, so I decided to take the jump and help other people transform their skin to reach their goals. I don’t wear makeup often as I would rather embrace being natural, so I do like to invest in my skin health and I liked the idea of helping other women to feel beautiful without having to cover up with makeup!

How did you discover The Skin School and what made you choose our training course?

I discovered The Skin School through social media, I shopped around at many different training schools and The Skin School got you the most value, some training academy’s can be very expensive and don’t include no where near as much kit or knowledge! The kit was everything you needed to help kit start your career in the industry. As well as just teaching facials Natalie taught a lot about the skin too which is the most important aspect of the job.

Tell us a little bit about your business (including how you chose your business name!)...

My business has been running for 9 months now and I have continued to expand my knowledge and expertise by always learning. The learning never stops in this industry… I wanted to choose a unique but professional name to stand out for my business but still keep it chíc, which is when I came up with Miss Skin Official, once I heard it I knew that was the right name for me! In terms of business I have many plans for the future and new treatments I am going to be bringing on board within the next few months.

What challenges did you face when starting your skincare business, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge starting self employed in this industry I would say is building a clientele, especially when so many are in the industry and are well established for many years before you! One thing I can say is just stay consistent… no matter how much you want to give up DONT! Make sure you stay unique to your brand and constantly create brand awareness. Marketing will be your best friend when promoting your business.

Can you share a success story from your skincare business that makes you proud of how far you've come?

My favourite success stories for me are helping people transform their skin with acne! There is no better feeling seeing a transformation and how confident it can make a person and also how much they appreciate your help! Acne can be really difficult to treat especially when there are just so many issues that can cause it, it’s a team effort with yourself and the client you both have to work together and build trust in each-other to get the results you both want!

Looking back on your experience with The Skin School, what specific aspect of the training stands out as the most valuable in helping you achieve your current level of success?

The most valuable part of the training for me to help me achieve my current level of success would be how much detail Natalie gives are the complications associated with facials. Some treatments can have huge side effects if you don’t ask the right questions or know what you are doing! Natalie made me feel super confident going ahead with treatments after knowing exactly what can and can’t be done on certain people.

What advice would you give to aspiring skincare professionals who are considering enrolling in a training course with The Skin School?

My advice would be to not compare your self to people who have been a skin professional for many many years, keep focused on your own journey as there is always enough room for us all to be successful. Also, I would say don’t be scared to network with other skin specialists, some have great tips and knowledge and it’s great to help each-other out every so often. My biggest advice would be to just go for it! I was so scared starting out at first and I think any other business owner will tell you the same but my biggest regret is not starting earlier.

How has becoming a skincare entrepreneur impacted your life personally and professionally?

Professionally it makes me feel proud as I have something to work for my self rather than somebody else! It challenges me to do better and constantly helps me push to achieve my full potential, I am so excited to see how far I can come in the industry.

Personally it makes me feel so content, it does not feel like work to me, it’s fun building relationships with your clients new and old. It gives me a-lot of freedom to pick my own hours which suit around my own life.

How do you stay innovative and keep up with the latest trends and advancements in the skincare industry to ensure your business remains at the forefront?

Constantly networking with other likeminded skincare professionals helps, always researching brands and treatments to help you be the best you can possibly be by setting goals for your business. We are so lucky to have Instagram now and it is my easiest way to research keeping up with the latest trends.
